Bristol City Leap, along with Vattenfall Heat UK, is thrilled to announce that it has been shortlisted for two awards at the UK Green Business Awards 2024. These nominations recognise Bristol City Leap’s commitment to pioneering sustainable initiatives that drive city-scale decarbonisation in Bristol.

The first nomination is for the ‘Net Zero Strategy of the Year’ award, recognising Bristol City Leap’s comprehensive approach to decarbonising Bristol’s energy system. Through transformative projects and infrastructure developments, Bristol City Leap is leading the way towards a cleaner, more sustainable future. With over £1 billion of delivery committed to renewable energy, energy efficiency, decarbonised heat and electric vehicle infrastructure initiatives, Bristol City Leap is dedicated to driving positive environmental and social impact for the city and its residents.

The second nomination is for the ‘Green Heat Project of the Year’ award, acknowledging the groundbreaking Bristol Heat Network project. This innovative, large-scale infrastructure project, spearheaded by Vattenfall Heat UK in partnership with Bristol City Leap, aims to revolutionise the city’s heating infrastructure by delivering decarbonised heat to thousands of homes and businesses. With a vision to significantly reduce carbon emissions, the Bristol Heat Network is a cornerstone of Bristol City Leap’s ambitious goal to become carbon neutral by 2030.

Just last month Bristol City Leap refreshed its commitment to decarbonising Bristol after publishing its £750m five-year business plan, including a plan to create 1,000 jobs – all paying at least the Real Living Wage. The updated plan would bring the total investment in the city to £771 million by 2029.

Mark Apsey MBE, Senior Vice President for Ameresco UK and Managing Director for Bristol City Leap commented: “We are honoured to be shortlisted for these prestigious awards at the UK Green Business Awards 2024. These nominations reflect our ongoing commitment to driving innovation and sustainability in the energy sector. While Bristol City Leap presents a route to decarbonisation at city-scale, it also brings a huge opportunity to deliver a more just transition for Bristolians through our £61.5 million of social value commitments. We are proud to be recognised for our efforts in pioneering projects that contribute to a cleaner, fairer and more prosperous future for Bristol and beyond.”
